Tata Group to build a Lithium

Gujarat state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tata Group. This collaboration, facilitated by the newly formulated Electronics Policy, will result in the establishment of India's first-ever lithium-ion cell manufacturing gigafactory in Gujarat. The MoU signing ceremony took place in Gandhinagar, with Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, the CEO of Tata Agaratas Energy Storage Solutions Private Limited, and the Secretary of Science and Technology of the Government of Gujarat, Mr Vijay Nehra, in attendance. Other prominent officials from both the government and the Tata Group were also present during the signing.

The proposed gigafactory will require an estimated investment of approximately INR 13,000 crores in phase 1 and will have a production capacity of 20 gigawatt-hours (GWh). This significant investment will boost the state's economy and also create numerous direct and indirect employment opportunities for over 13,000 individuals.

A statement issued by Gujarat government added, "The state of Gujarat has committed to 100 per cent electric vehicle adoption and aims to reduce carbon emissions by 50 per cent by 2030. Establishing a giga-factory for lithium-ion cell production aligns with this vision and reinforces Gujarat to sustainable and clean energy solutions."

By expanding its focus on electric vehicles and carbon-free energy production, Gujarat aims to increase its reliance on lithium-ion batteries. The establishment of Tata Group's plant will support Gujarat in developing an ecosystem for lithium-ion cell manufacturing. Overall, this collaboration between the Government of Gujarat and the Tata Group marks a significant milestone in the state's pursuit of clean energy and sustainable development. The establishment of India's first lithium-ion cell manufacturing gigafactory in Gujarat will contribute to the state's economic growth, job creation, and the realization of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a sustainable future.
